Costa Dorada
Design and Build a Villa on the Costa Dorada
It is named the “Golden Coast” and for its fine white sandy beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters. It incorporates Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda, L’Ametlla de Mar and the region of Tarragona.
At the mouths of large rivers such as the Ebro, prawns breed and those from Tarragona are considered among the best in Spain. The delta of the river Ebro basin is rich agricultural land yielding olive oil, wines (the reds of Priorato are well regarded), almonds, hazelnuts and calcots – tender young leeks that are eaten as an early spring ritual.
The Costa Dorada is an excellent location to design and build a holiday home perhaps later to become a retirement home. There are the international airports of Reus and Barcelona connecting you to the rest of Europe and the world with the Pyrenees on your door step and of course the fabulous Mediterranean.
Buying Land on the Costa Dorada
You will find plenty of plots for building a villa and older houses to renovate. As always we strongly recommend you get a team of independent professionals to evaluate the land before you buy and confirm you can achieve your vision both legally and within your budget.
The Prettiest Villages Inland and on the Costa Dorada
There are plenty of historic villages and ancient fishing communities many with annual festivals steeped in tradition.
Les Cases de Alcanar: a lovely fishing village and port – a great spot for a little fried squid and prawns from the nearby delta.
Sant Carles de la Rapita
Poblet: a stunning religious complex with splendid examples on monastic, civilian, and military architecture from the twelfth to the sixteenth centuries.
Santes Creus: begun in the twelfth century this monastery is on a much smaller scale than Poblet but is a fine example of Catalan Gothic.
Tortosa: an ancient city with a fourteenth century Gothic cathedral and beautiful views of the Ebro river and its delta.
The Best Beaches on the Costa Dorada
The coastal strip that goes from the mouth of the Fox River to the Ebro Delta has dreamlike maritime landscapes. A total of 81 kilometres of fine sand and the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean make up this unusual coastline. Most of the beaches are blue flag certified. Here are a few of our favourite for you to check out:
Playa del Vendrell
Roc de San Galeta
Playa del Arco de Bará
Playa de Llevant
Playa de Capellans
Playa de Tamarit
Playa de los Eucaliptos
